Large tasks can be overwhelming for a student, but when they are broken down into smaller steps the task seems manageable.  The super seniors were given a large task this year of making materials for the teachers. This week in 212 we talked all about snowmen.  Our students participated in exciting learning activities all week long with snowmen.  We read some adventurous and fun books like Snowmen at Night, The Itsy-bitsy Snowman, and If You Are a Snowman and You Know It.  We incorporated snowmen into all Instructional Highlights – Room 212

MIDLANDTIC AIR The students in Mrs. Engelhardt’s class took a virtual trip to the Arctic! The passengers were greeted by pilot Marco as they boarded Midlandic Air Flight 219. Teddy Bear Rice Krispies Treats In Room 218 the students were super excited to go to the kitchen and cook. In the classroom we read the book “Corduroy”. The students in Room 217 are enjoying expanding their alphabet knowledge and phonemic awareness using the Learning Without Tears handwriting and reading programs.  The Handwriting Without Tears program introduces the character Mat Man who is made using lines and curves which are necessary to form letters. At the Midland School we have an opportunity to assist our students to develop both life skills and career skills.  Food shopping can be a daunting experience for a person with disabilities, especially if they struggle with reading. Instructional Highlights – Wellness

The Wellness room is a place for mindfulness and social-emotional learning. Students practice using their breath to find calm, identify feelings, or be in the moment. Lessons include an introductory song and story for the youngest learners and relatable concepts for teens. Signing while Singing  In Chorus and Drama class the students enjoy learning songs with sign language. We sing a song called Kindness is Free from our music education magazine called Music K-8.
