Super Seniors

Mrs. Serrano’s Super Seniors can be spotted throughout the building actively engaged in a variety of meaningful and purposeful jobs. The mission of the program is to assist students in developing functional, real-world skills that can be carried over into adult life, promoting greater independence and confidence. By participating in authentic work experiences within the school community, students are able to see the value of their contributions and take pride in a job well done.

Students complete real tasks assigned by various departmental staff members, which helps them understand expectations in a workplace setting. They practice following multi-step directions, organizing materials, managing their time, and maintaining focus until a task is finished. These opportunities also allow students to build responsibility, accountability, and perseverance when challenges arise.

In addition to learning new skill sets, students continue strengthening their decision-making and self-advocacy skills. They communicate directly with staff to ask questions, clarify directions, and confirm that tasks are being completed accurately. These important communication exchanges help prepare them for future employment and community-based experiences.

In the photo, Julianna and Nicholas are carefully assembling information packets for the social workers, ensuring that materials are organized neatly and accurately. Meanwhile, Jillian and Angel are sizing and hanging shirts for the Kindness Closet, paying close attention to detail so that items are ready for distribution. Throughout their assignments, the students remained focused, demonstrated teamwork, supported one another when needed, and took pride in completing their responsibilities.

Their dedication, cooperation, and positive attitudes truly reflect the goals of the Super Seniors program. Well, done, Super Seniors—keep up the outstanding work!
