Room 512

Super Seniors in Room 512 are back on the job!

The Room 512 Super Senior group participates in a variety of hands-on vocational activities that build practical skills and promote responsibility within the school community. Students take part in tasks such as laminating, die cutting, collating, preparing classroom materials, and delivering items to staff. Elaina works independently organizing and labeling classroom materials. Owen learned how to use the matte laminator to make materials for students with CVI. Diana and Mikayla enjoy cutting the laminated materials with precision. These experiences provide opportunities to practice following multi-step directions, working both independently and cooperatively, and managing time to complete tasks efficiently. Shawn worked in a supervisory role as he and Isabella completed an inventory job for the grocery store. By engaging in meaningful jobs that directly support teachers and classmates, students develop a sense of purpose and pride in their contributions while strengthening the foundational skills needed for future successes.

The students also contribute to the school community by taking on daily responsibilities such as attendance and laundry jobs. For attendance, students visit classrooms to collect attendance sheets and mail, which provides opportunities to practice communication, organization, and responsibility while interacting with staff and peers. Laura uses a check off sheet to make sure all the attendance sheets are collected. The students then sort the attendance sheets and mail to help Mrs. Amend in the main office. In the laundry role, students gather, wash, dry, fold, and return items to the nursing office, building vocational skills through a structured routine. Sophia and Hannah are pros at folding sheets and pads for the nurses. These jobs help students strengthen their independence, time management, and task-completion skills while developing a sense of ownership and pride in their contributions to the school environment.
