In Ms. Twilley’s class, students participate in a meaningful and engaging “Weekend News” writing activity that encourages both self-expression and peer connection. During this time, students reflect on their weekend experiences and share their personal stories with classmates in a supportive and inclusive environment. The focus is on developing writing skills by organizing thoughts, using complete sentences, and describing both events and feelings. Students are encouraged to think about what they did, who they spent time with, and how those experiences made them feel, helping to build emotional awareness alongside literacy skills.

To support individual learning needs, students can complete their writing by either handwriting or typing, depending on their ability and comfort level. This allows all students to access the activity in a way that best supports their success. Additionally, students are invited to draw a picture or bring in a printed photo that represents their weekend, which can serve as a visual aid to enhance their writing and sharing.

This activity not only strengthens writing and communication skills but also fosters a sense of community as students learn more about one another’s lives and experiences.
