Community Living – School Restaurant Experience
Students from Room 510 had a fun and engaging community living lesson during their visit to the school restaurant for snack time. This real-life experience supported the development of both independent/ community living and social-emotional skills in a meaningful and structured setting.

Before sitting down, each student was responsible for wiping their hands and cleaning their space at the table, promoting important hygiene habits and self-responsibility. These routines reinforce independence and help prepare students for real-world community outings.

The students were divided between two tables, where they had the opportunity to socialize with their peers in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Being in smaller groups encouraged meaningful peer interactions. Smiles filled the room as students enjoyed their snacks while building friendships and confidence in a natural, community-style setting.

The school restaurant offers an ideal space for students to practice routines they will use in real-world environments, such as waiting their turn, cleaning up after themselves, and engaging in age-appropriate social exchanges. These moments help bridge the gap between classroom learning and community readiness, giving students real-life context for the skills they are working on each day.

The visit was a big success, full of joy, cooperation, and connection. Activities like these are a core part of our life skills curriculum, providing students with the tools they need to be successful and confident members of the community.
