Room 212

In Room 212, we spent this week talking about caterpillars and reading the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar. On Monday, we received live Painted Lady caterpillars to observe in our very own classroom, how exciting! Our preschoolers engaged in learning activities related to caterpillars and our story of the week. Students worked on one-to-one correspondence counting, as well as identifying and matching numbers 1 to 5 and the days of the week.

Each morning, we observed our caterpillars to see if they were eating their food and growing. At the beginning of the week, the caterpillars were so tiny, but now they are “big fat caterpillars” just like in our book! The Very Hungry Caterpillar was incorporated into all our lessons and learning activities this week through color, object, and number identification, as well as sorting activities.

We also did some fun, creative art projects. Students painted egg cartons green to create a caterpillar, which helped them practice following simple, one-step directions. As a class, we created “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” on our classroom wall, practicing number identification, counting fruit, and recreating the fun story. It was a wonderful but busy week reading and learning with one of our favorite Eric Carle books. All of our preschoolers are looking forward to watching our caterpillars turn into beautiful butterflies!
