Program Center Update

We kicked off the school year with the story There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Books by Lucille Colandro. This silly spin-off of the classic “Old Lady” story had everyone laughing as the character swallowed school supplies like a pen, a ruler, and a folder! To bring the story to life, students used a fun craft box with the old lady’s head and mouth, “feeding” her picture cards of the items.

To reinforce the lesson, classes completed a variety of computer activities. On Boom Cards, students dragged and dropped school supply images into the old lady’s mouth and checked their answers. On Wordwall, they practiced recognizing other school supply names. Everyone loved taking turns at the SMART Board to complete the tasks!

Some classes also practiced writing skills. Using Clicker 7 or Microsoft Word, students created sentences and lists about school supplies. They explored tools like highlighting text, changing fonts and colors, and even inserting Google images to enhance their work.

Throughout the year, you’ll see your child bring home completed computer assignments. Please keep these in a folder so you can track their progress. We’ll also send home website addresses for extra practice at home if you’d like to explore them together.

I’m excited to get to know the new faces at Midland and can’t wait to share many more fun lessons. Happy reading and happy computing from the Program Center!
