In recognition of Older Americans Month, Mr. John Tegeler of Martinsville, NJ has been recognized by The Somerset County Office of Aging as a “Profile of Positive Aging” for his service to the Midland community and beyond. The award highlights residents age 60 and above “who are currently making a positive difference in the lives of others by setting examples on ways to share their time, experience and talents, take charge of one’s health, get engaged in their communities and make a positive impact on the lives of others.”
Mr. Tegeler was a pharmaceutical executive whose career spanned 34 years at Sanofi US and 5 predecessor companies in Bridgewater. His experience included strategic leadership for 500 R & D associates in 5 countries and management responsibility for an annual budget of up to $120M. Mr. Tegeler contributed to long range planning and capital management for a division of 1,300 associates worldwide and was liaison with the global Patent department for strategic purposes.
Upon retirement, Mr. Tegeler used his strategic leadership experience and made a difference at Midland. Mr. Tegeler and his wife, Regina, served on the Midland Parent Association Board while their son Matthew attended The Midland School. In 2015, Mr. Tegeler joined The Midland Corporation Board of Trustees where he currently serves on the Strategic Planning and Personnel Committee and Facility / Technology Committee.
Mr. Teleger’s son attends Midland Explores – a day program that provides meaningful choice and activities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). This connection makes Mr. Tegeler’s involvement with Midland deeply personal and meaningful. The Tegeler family regularly attend Midland’s events and outings to support the programs. Mr. Tegeler’s leadership and guidance over the past 5 years on the Board has helped Midland improve the health and safety of all the individuals with intellectual and developmental di (I/DD) Midland serves and supports across the organization.
As the Chair of Midland’s Strategic Planning Committee, John has helped identify how Midland can meet the evolving needs of Midland’s aging population that we serve and support in our residential services. Enhancing services for the aging population will help improve teh the overall quality of the residents lives and also prevent a premature move out of Midland into a skilled nursing facility.
Mr. Tegeler is an active contributor to the local community. He led one of the United Way campaigns at Hoechst Celanese raising over $250K. He also served on the National Disautonomia Research Foundation Board, a patient advocacy group. He was appointed Trustee at Immaculate Conception parish for annual budget review for submission to the diocese office in Metuchen. Additionally, Mr. Tegeler participates in Family Support Coalition of NJ and Family Support Council of Somerset & Union Counties. He also participates in activities by PLAN NJ, Our House Foundation and Cherished Creations.
