Using the PCI Education: Environmental Print series, students in Room 222 are learning a variety of language arts and social studies skills. Each week, the students listen to a story that incorporates community signs. Students have opportunities to answer questions about the story, identify vocabulary presented in the story, and match community signs.
This week, the students listened to the story Going to Texas. It is a story about a girl named Kim who traveled to Texas to visit her grandparents. Students in Room 222 were presented with pictures and asked to identify the main character of the story, different modes of transportation, and community signs for “buckle up”, “airport”, and “crosswalk.” Sticking with the theme of traveling, the students sorted vehicles and matched pictures of New Jersey (our state) and pictures of Texas (the state from the story). The students are doing a great job expanding their understanding of literature and environmental signs using the curriculum materials.
