Instructional Highlights – Room 212

In Room 212, we spent this week talking about caterpillars and reading the book The Very Hungry Caterpillars.  Our students participated in fun learning activities related to caterpillars and our story of the week.  Students worked on counting, one to one correspondence, identifying, and matching the days of the week.  Gerald reminded his teachers and friends that Wednesday starts with the letter W when we read the book together.

The story The Very Hungry Caterpillar was incorporated into all our lessons and learning activities this week with color, object identification, number identification, and sorting activities.  We also did fun creative art projects.  Lily and Gavin had fun creating a caterpillar with all different shades of green construction paper in the shape of squares; they worked very hard following simple one-step directions.

Gerald and Chelsea had a lot of fun building The Hungry Caterpillar on our classroom wall and practicing number identification and counting fruit.  Christian and Destiny did a great job sequencing the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar.  Christian surprised us with some spontaneous language saying “Caterpillar” while working and we were all so excited!

It was a fun busy week reading and learning with one of our favorite Eric Carl books. By the end of the week, some of our students were spontaneously retelling the story with our big wall caterpillar.
