Instructional Highlights – Room 219

Our current Science unit of study is titled, “The Sun and Earth.” The students were introduced to the unit by their classmate Bryce who volunteered to be the model of the sun, a huge star. Instructional Highlights – Room 217

The students in room 217 have been enjoying the author Karma Wilson’s Bear book series. Using a book series helps students to recognize important elements of the story such as characters, setting, and plot through familiarity. Instructional Highlights – Room 220

In Room 220 the students are working on the concept of time. We started off with a book entitled, Measuring: Seconds, Minutes, and Hours, by Dr. Holly Karapetkova. Describing how long a second is can be hard for students to understand. The author describes it as being as quick as Instructional Highlights – Room 220

Instructional Highlights – 500 WING HEALTH

In the 500 wing Health classes, students recently completed a two-week unit on emotions.  Emotions are the way we feel.  No one can know what I think or how I feel unless I tell or show him or her.  My thoughts and feelings are important.  Other people have feelings too.  Instructional Highlights – 500 WING HEALTH

Instructional Highlights – ART

In ART we have been studying the visual impact of objects in our everyday lives.  Students are learning to respond to works of modern and contemporary art by comparing our created art to the works that inspired them. Instructional Highlights – Room 504

Room 504 has been busy with their scientific explorations this semester.  The class is working on a unit on living systems.  Thus far, we conducted lessons to identify living vs. non-living things.  We watched power points and various online resources to this topic.  The class learned that living things move, Instructional Highlights – Room 504

Instructional Highlights – Room 506

Animals that are awake in the night can be spooky at Halloween time. So recently in science, room 506 studied nocturnal animals to coincide with our holiday activities. In room 510 we are learning about being kind to others.  We listened to the book “Kindness Makes Me Stronger” by Elizabeth Cole.    After reading the book, we came up with ways that we could be kind to others.  Ideas included complimenting each other, helping each other within the classroom Instructional Highlights – Room 510

Instructional Highlights – Room 512

Room 512 Welcomes Readtopia! In Room 512, the students have been using the newest Language Arts Literacy program called Readtopia.  “Readtopia is designed to support literacy and math instruction for students …with complex learning needs…Lessons are structured to provide both whole and small group instruction.” The students are enjoying the Instructional Highlights – Room 512

Being a super senior is a big step for a student at Midland School.
