Instructional Highlights – Room 508

Students in room 508 were excited to begin their first cooking activity during Independent Living. We started with a lesson about Johnny Appleseed. After reading a short story about Johnny Appleseed, whose actual name was John Chapman, and answering questions about his life, students washed their hands and put on Instructional Highlights – Room 508

Room 506 started our new school year off with a fun lesson about plants. We began with an introduction to the vocabulary presented in our Epic Book, Plants Are Living Things. Super seniors make a great team! Being a super senior is a big step for a student at The Midland School. In Room 212, we spent this week talking about caterpillars and reading the book The Very Hungry Caterpillars.  Our students participated in fun learning activities related to caterpillars and our story of the week.  Students worked on counting, one to one correspondence, identifying, and matching the days of the week.  Instructional Highlights – Room 212

Instructional Highlights – Room 219

The students in Room 219 are learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. They gained a better understanding about the different stages from egg to caterpillar, chrysalis to butterfly during our group reading lessons from our new literacy program called, Readtopia. Spring is here and so are the insects! The students in Room 217 enjoyed learning about insects through some of the works of Eric Carle. In classroom 218, appropriate social skills are a must! Social Skills group in 218 helps students in the class interact in appropriate ways, regardless of how they communicate. Instructional Highlights – Room 220

In science Room 220 is learning about liquids and solids. We read the book entitled, Discover Water, by Nadia Higgins from the “Get EPIC” website. Students drink water and wash up with water but never think about where it comes from. In the book students are introduced to how we Instructional Highlights – Room 220
