Instructional Highlights – ART

In ART we have been studying the visual impact of objects in our everyday lives.  Students are learning to respond to works of modern and contemporary art by comparing our created art to the works that inspired them. One of our first works of art we created was inspired by the vibrant colors of Artist Peter Max.

Students will also investigate artistic approaches and connect them to everyday objects and personal experiences. Recently we experimented using chalk pastels on black paper and the dynamic effect it can have on color. Historically Artists used a technique called Chiaroscuro. This technique uses strong contrasts between light and dark and how it effects their art compositions. This technique is also used to add volume to an object to give it a three-dimensional quality. See the chiaroscuro pumpkin examples below by Astrid E. and Andrew Y.
